San Isidro

The San Isidro festivities are held annually in Madrid for several days around May 15. In the district of Carabanchel, residents can enjoy processions, festivals, attractions and other traditional shows. Traditionally, locals gather in the meadow of the Manzanares River to drink the water that falls from the spout of the hermitage.

The promenade overlooking the chapel is filled with little food stands with various elements of Madrid cuisine. They prepare a giant "cocido madrileño" which is a typical stew from Madrid, that is shared between the neighbors. As if it were a picnic, with blankets on the ground, they enjoy this traditional dish which main ingredients are chickpeas.
